Calterah Becomes One of the Very Few Globally and First in China to Achieve FiRa® Core 3.0 Certification for Dubhe UWB Chips

2025-06-27

On June 26th, Calterah was officially awarded the FiRa® Core 3.0 certification by the international FiRa® Consortium (Fine Ranging Consortium), becoming one of the very few companies globally and China’s first ultra-wideband (UWB) chip enterprise to achieve this. This milestone not only validates Calterah’s technological leadership but also positions it among the global top tier of UWB innovators.

In January 2025, the international FiRa® Consortium announced the release of the FiRa® Core 3.0 specifications and certification program, marking a new stage of multi-function synergy and cross-scenario integration for the UWB technology. FiRa® Core 3.0 introduces three major UWB features, addressing critical challenges in complex scenarios to enhance the efficiency and versatility of UWB systems.

Calterah’s UWB SoC series Dubhe has completed tests of three major types: PHY (Physical Layer), MAC (Medium Access Control), and IOP (Interoperability), certified to FiRa® Core 3.0 for a wide range of features, including the latest CCC Device and CCC Vehicle features for automotive digital keys and AoA Azimuth Report, AoA Elevation Report, and TWR TS O2M (Time-Sequence One-to-Many Two-Way Ranging) for the consumer and industrial applications. It thus effectively ensures compatibility and empowers more secure and powerful ranging and angular measurement. It also supports using a smaller number of anchors to effectively reduce costs and improve the flexibility of solutions. In addition, the Dubhe chips are seamlessly compatible with Apple’s U1 and U2 chips and support connectivity with iPhone 11 and later models, achieving cross-brand compatibility.

Calterah’s Dubhe chips are the world’s first UWB SoC series compliant with the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard. Under the Bluetooth Low Energy Assisted Multi-Millisecond (BLE-Assisted MMS) mode, the maximum ranging distance of Dubhe can reach over 400 meters, and its maximum signal gain is around 20 dB. These advantages can eliminate the anxiety about finding cars in large underground car parks and achieve a seamless experience of keyless unlocking and locking. The Dubhe chips also boast excellent radar detection capability, with small sizes and low power consumption, further optimizing the user experience and expanding application scenariosdiverse always-on applications such as kick sensing, in-cabin detection, intrusion detection, etc.

With the FiRa® Core 3.0 certification achieved, Calterah’s mature UWB technology is capable of supporting scenarios for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications, offering full upgrades in multi-function synergy, cross-scenario integration, and secure interoperability. Calterah UWB chips can establish UWB systems in sophisticated IoT environments with higher precision, security, reliability, and compatibility, providing strong technical support for positioning and ranging, smart car access, V2X interaction, etc.
